There are many ways to understand or interpret the term "god". In this Teaching the term refers to a higher guiding principle and symbol, and it is acceptable to view this higher guidance as personal or impersonal. It can be viewed as divine parents of an indwelling soul within us, or as nothing more than a psychic phenomena resulting from how our consciousness evolved over millions of years. It is even acceptable to view "god" as our future self traveling back in time to guide us. All these, and other, interpretations of the guidance that comes to us from time to time are reasonable theories that can serve us well until we arrive at the point where we actually experience for ourselves firsthand what our ancestors called "the gods". During the Manichaean phase of the Path of Light God was usually referred to as a Fourfold Being: FOUR-FOLD DIETY
Nazmani revere the Universal Source of All Life, personified by a fourfold God - The Life, Their Light, Power and Wisdom. Nazoreans have many names for this Deity or Life Force, taken from many traditions and languages. The Fourfold God is actually four groups of god-goddess archetype pairs. This fourfold God is similar to the concept of four Jewels in Bon Buddhism (which became the Buddha, Dharma, Sangha and Lama of Tibetan Buddhism) and the Ogdoad of Valentinian Gnosticism. The Fourfold God concept comes from the Manichaean tradition. LIFE is a modernly constructed acronym describing this Four Fold Deity:
