A Brief Explanation of the "Blessing of King-Priests" Prayer

This prayer is found as number 105 in the Mandaic Qulasta. Mandaean Priests have preserved it from antiquity and bow at every salutation, saying it often. Its 37 bowings are reminiscent of the 37 prostrations demanded of the Manichaean Electi at their noon prayers, as recorded by al-Bayruni who also mentions that the Manichaeans shortened their daily "Column" prayer by two prostrations on the day of the Moon. Al-Nadim does not mention 37 prostrations for the noon hour prayer, but seems to imply that the number of prostrations for both Electi and Listeners was 12 at each of the prayer times, with 3 of the 7 prayer times optional for the Listeners. (Al-Nadim may have been familiar with the western Mihrite prayer practices while al-Bayruni was reporting later Denawar practices of the more Buddhist orientated eastern branch of Manichaeism.) (NOTE: Many of the names are repeats.)
