Garden, orchard and greenhouse layout for full self sufficiency.  The following crop choices have been made to fulfill the needs of the 5 day rotational diet. Their placement also facilitates tarping for weed control. A lot of the space is allotted to growing grains and beans. These might be cheaper to buy than grow, but at least some need to be grown for biomass to keep the garden productive unless one has access to cover crops or grass clippings from elsewhere. It is recommended that the soil be ammended with missing minerals initially, thereafter being fed with teas brewed from food and grass scraps. Because only a portion of fruit trees are needed by one person, orchards and greenhouses should be sized for at least four or five people. Around 14000 gallons of water are needed for annual beds, and about that same amount for one person's share of orchards and greenhouse. Seven 55 gallon drums, filled to the brim with food and plant residues, are required for fertility. These are aged for a year before being used.

Annual Outdoor Garden Plot Plan
(1400' Beds, 14000 gallons of water needed)
(Sunset Zone 14, USDA 8b)

54' Lettuce  (July15-Oct25) (Aug1 in late yr)  (100g Water) (Interplant clover 1/3 thru) till spring greenhouse only
5 Onion till spring
....4' Mache, Spinach, etc.   (Sep1-Apr1) replant till spring
15' Stevia Perenial (Jun15-Oct25) (150g Water, can be dry farmed)  (+120 days + Cover Crop)(Interplant clover 1/3 thru)
A 24'x105' silage tarp will cover all beds and paths for 2 weeks in hot weather, 3 weeks in cooler, to kill weeds. Beds are covered in three groups - a small 40' group on March7-Apr 1, a 300' group on July 15-Aug1, and the rest on Jun 1-June 15. One way is to layout the annual garden in a 24'x105' rectangle with four beds 3'x100', but other layouts are possible if the silage tarp is cut into smaller pieces. Weed fabric can be precut to apply in summer to each bed.

To fertilize 1400', prepare 4 drums (55g) of compost tea by slowely filling them with 50% household compost and 50% water, or grass/grain/garden cuttings. Add a handful of leaf mold, cover and wait 3-12 months before using.  Mix 1 aged gallon with 100 of water and 1 gallon of freshly brewed 2 day microbial tea (1 gallon water, 8 grams leaf mold, 4g salt, 40 grams rock dust, and 25 grams cooked and blended potato. Double this (7-8 drums) when adding in orchard and greenhouse.
